Festivals and Community Events

Brave Bold Drama of course isn't all work and no play! We have been invited to many family-friendly festivals and community events, both large and small, in the South West.

If you're organising a festival or community event, maybe you'd like us there.  As always, talk to us about your festival or event's themes, aims or messages and we can make you something bespoke!

Southbank Bristol Arts Trail

Brave Bold Drama is a regular contributor to the Southbank Bristol Arts Trail which happens every May in Bedminster and Southville. The 2017 trail is 13th-14th May.

In April we will be working with 6 local primary schools to develop dance routines. These will be performed at acta Community Theatre on Sat 13th May.

On Sunday 14th May we will be in residence at Margot May Tearoom performing songs and short pop-up pieces of theatre throughout the day.

There will also be an amazing line-up of bands and solo musicians playing throughout the weekend at the Tobacco Factory. If choirs are your thing, head to St Francis Church where community choirs from Bristol will be singing all weekend!

Our  "Framed" workshop is always a big hit at festivals.  A magnet-board full of famous images by the likes of Renoir, Van Gogh, Magritte and Vermeer. A box of hats, props and a large washing line full of costumes and coloured cloth.

In a nutshell, people dress up as famous works of art, send us their pictures and the best one wins an art book!

We have played "Framed" at Entertaining Local Knowle in Redcatch Park, at Southbank Bristol Arts Trail in the actacentre and at Keynsham Music Festival.

"This is my favourite thing here! You've inspired me to make a dressing up box for my children now I've seen how much they love it!"

"Such an effective idea! Everyone was looking very carefully at the pictures in order to get their costume right. And giving them a card with the artist's name on the back at the end is a great idea to encourage them to keep on enjoying art!"

We like to fill festivals with Planet-Saving Superheroes!

Children of all ages (and sometimes bigger people too) are invited to make capes, headbands, masks and superhero kit like rocket jet backpacks, just using recycled materials.

This rolling drop-in activity is a great way to encourage families to think about eco-issues and have fun at the same time. Makes for great photos too!

"You were a great hit today with everyone! My child went to bed with their superhero outfit on!"

Dotty's Disco

The fantastic and ever-growing Keynsham Music Festival hires Brave Bold Drama every year to bring a bit of pazazz and theatricality to the final Sunday.

One year we thought super-fly, cheesy, wave-your-arms-in-the-air-like-you-just-don't-care feel-good disco dancing with a Diva called Dotty was what was needed.

And guess what, we were right!

Thanks again for the wonderful  Dotty. Everyone I've spoken to said how much fun your corner of the festival was!

Brilliant fun! Really cool!  She made a great party atmosphere!

You just looked fabulous and she's such a fun character to have around. You had everyone from little tots to teenage boys and even dads dancing!
